The Monday Map: French election 2012, 1st round
Yesterday was election day in France. We were voting for the next French president but as you may know the first round is only to decide who are going to be the two finalists. Unless someone gets more than 50% of the votes during the first round but I don't think that ever happened...
The results were quite unexpected and even a bit scary to be honest. I'm still unsure how to comment them without saying something stupid and angry. I let you see by yourself on the map above the results all over France. You might want to avoid the parts in blue, that's where they don't like foreigners so much over apparently...
Exactly ten years ago, the first time we voted for a president, the extreme-right wing qualified for the second round with 16% of the votes. We were in shock and spent the following two weeks protesting in the streets against the awful values they defend. Last night they got almost 20%. And while they didn't qualified for the second round this time, it's a sign that something is going wrong in France. We need to take action.
